FAQs

About Beef Shares:
How much does a beef share cost?
The total price is determined by the total weight of your beef share. This price includes the butcher fees, packaging, delivery of your animal to the butcher, etc. We’ve got it covered.
On average, a whole beef share will cost around $3,600 and a 1/2 beef share will cost around $1,800. This is a rough estimate of what to expect, but it may be a little more or less based on the weight of the animal.
How much freezer space will I need?
On average, they say 35-40lbs of meat will fit into 1 cubic foot…. We have a 14 cubic foot deep freezer and if you do a little Tetris, a whole beef will fit into it.
But I do recommend getting a freezer bigger than what you think you need... because next year you might order a half instead of a quarter, or a whole instead of a half. Think I’m kidding? Ask our previous customers! 😉
Will my beef be vaccuum sealed?
Yes. That is included in our price.
When can I expect my beef share to be ready?
We pre-schedule butcher dates in a 3-month range with our processor. The sooner you place your order, the sooner you will recieve a pickup date. Once I deliver the steers to our processor, I will communicate the exact pickup date with you promptly.
Example: if you selected a share in November, I will assign you a pickup date based on how many November orders came in before you.
Where is the pickup location?
The pickup location is on our farm where we will have your beef stored in a walk-in freezer. The address will be disclosed to you upon ordering.
Do I need to bring coolers when I pick up my beef?
The beef is vacuum sealed, frozen solid & packed up into large heavy-duty bags (about 50 lbs for each bag) that we load into your vehicle. If you’re not traveling far I don’t think that coolers are necessary... BUT it is completely up to you to make that call.
We are not responsible for any weather or traffic-related issues causing anything to thaw.
How much ground beef will I get?
50-60% of your beef order will be ground beef. I highly recommend selecting every cut possible. Any cuts not selected will be turned into additional ground beef. Example: If you don’t select Ribeye Steak or Ribeye Roast it will be turned into ground beef, and that would be a sin.
About the Purchase Process:
What are "Additional Meat" options?
(Applicable to Whole & Half Shares only)
These are more options for you to fully customize your beef. They allow you to select a roast size, steak thickness, steaks per package, and additional cuts that include Brisket, Flank/Skirt Steak, Short Ribs, Soup Bones, Stew Meat, and Organ meat. These additional cuts are included in your price and do not cost extra. TIP: Have dogs? They will thank you for the heart, tongue, and anything else you can’t “stomach”.
When do I fill out my cut sheet?
Option 1: You will receive an email with the cut sheet a few days prior to dropping your steer off at the processor. You will fill it out online and it will go directly to the processor’s email.
Option 2: You are more than welcome to call the processor and they will fill it out over the phone with you. This is a good option if you’ve never bought a beef share before and have questions. They have excellent customer service and are more than happy to assist you with this!
What size roast should I get?
The most popular roast size is 3-4 lbs. I also like this size, because it ensures that I have some for leftover lunches. That’s a win in my book!
How thick should I get my steaks?
This is completely up to you. For my family, we do 1 inch thick. I don’t recommend getting them any thinner than 3/4in unless you want a one-sided steak.
Note: filets come as a standard 2-inch thick, regardless of what you select on the others.
How many steaks should I get per package?
This is also a personal preference and depends on how many you want to thaw at a time.
Additional charges will apply if you select 1 steak per package, due to packaging costs. Besides, they’re like potato chips, you can’t cook just one.
🍔 Can I get my ground beef made into patties?
Yes! You can get a minimum of 25 lbs turned into hamburger patties, and you can also choose if you want 1/4lb or 1/3lb patties.
THIS IS AN ADDITIONAL CHARGE OF $0.99/LB. But also, one that I highly recommend.
You will have plenty of ground beef, so go ahead and treat yourself to a little convenience!
